2003/2004 – Where It All Began
Hwy H2O began its journey as the business development brand for the Great Lakes/Seaway in two phases. A total of 18 Port Partners invested in HWY H2O, adding to the funds both Seaway Corporations devoted to the project. The first phase was a promotional campaign aimed at the general public. The campaign consisted of billboards supported by newspaper advertising and radio ads. The goal of the campaign was to build awareness of the Great Lakes/Seaway as a sustainable, environmentally friendly way to ship cargo. The campaign also highlighted that shipping by water would alleviate highway truck congestion.
